Vocation:
"Vocation is primarily a form of human development." (Pope Benedict XVI, Encyclical Letter, paragraph 16, "Caritas in Veritate") God calls us into being and further calls us to progress into the fullness of being who we are meant to become, for our own wholeness, but even more for the benefit of the common good of humanity and all of creation. Our primary call is through the Sacrament of Baptism. Through Baptism, we are called to become disciples of Christ, living in Love and Truth. Vocation can take several forms: Diocesan Priesthood, Religious Life, Married Life, Single Life, Diaconate, or Lay Ministry. For further explanation of each of these vocations, please click the link to the Vocations web page of the Diocese of Green Bay, www.gbdioc.org/vocations.html or contact our pastor, Fr. Jack or our Director of Adult Formation, Kathy DeNoble at 337-2330 or email her at kdenoble@stmarydepere.org or kdenoble@stfrancisdepere.org. We will be happy to talk with you about vocations. For Lay Ministry Vocations, please also see the Diocesan Commissioned Ministry Lay Formation Leadership Program or the Discipulos de Christos Hispanic Lay Formation Leadership Program.
Diocesan Commissioned Ministry Lay Formation Leadership Program:
The Commissioned Ministry Leadership Formation Program is a three-stage college credit certificate program designed for women and men who have experience as a parish minister and have demonstrated effectiveness in ministry and seek to develop as ministerial leaders. In addition, a person may use these courses:
- As credentials for various Church ministries
- As credits applied to a Bachelor's degree
- As credits fulfilling pre-requisites for a Master's degree
- As continuing education opportunities
Upon completion, participants will be qualified to serve in various ministry positions, will be commissioned by the Local Ordinary and will be presented with a certificate identifying the specialized area of ministry. The program is designed:
- To be a resource for parishes and other Church organizations in preparing persons for leadership roles.
- To provide opportunities for persons to acquire knowledge, develop skills, and respond to the call of discipleship in order to be effective leaders in specific ministries.
If you are interested in knowing more about the Lay Commissioned Leadership Formation program, please contact Tony Pichler, Diocesan Director for Lay Ministry Formation, at 1-877-500-3580, ext. 8268 or email him at tpichler@gbdioc.org or Log on to http://www.gbdioc.org/vocations/lay-ministry/commissioned-ministry-formation-program.html.
Diocesan Discipulos De Christos Lay Formation Leadership Program:
"Discipulos de Christo" (Disciples of Christ), the Spanish equivalent to the diocesan Commissioned Ministry Leadership program consists of three years of study and features three courses per year. All classes are presented in Spanish. The first graduates of this program were honored with a Mass of Recognition and Commitment on May 17, 2009 at St. Willebrord Church in Green Bay. Adriana Covarrubias, a St. Mary parishioner, was part of the first graduating class. Adriana completed her year of sponsored ministry by visiting parishioners from St. Mary and St. Francis Xavier who resided at a local nursing home. After a summer break, Adriana plans to continue her volunteer visits in the Fall. There are many areas of ministry to choose from in this program. If you are interested in this program, please contact Sr. Jane Riha, Director of the Discipulos De Christos Lay Formation program at 920-272-8294 or 1-877-500-3580, ext. 8294 or email her at jrha@gbdioc.org or log onto http://www.gbdioc.org/vocations/lay-ministry/discipulos-de-cristo.html for more information or to register.
